Biochemistry explores the molecular architecture and processes within living systems. Scientists in this field analyze life through the lens of chemical processes. The Master of Biochemistry (MBiol) is a four-year degree where students complete the three-year BSc in Biochemistry before advancing to a fourth year, contingent on academic achievement.
During the initial three years, students examine diverse specialized topics such as laboratory methods in biochemistry, biomolecular organization, metabolic pathways, cellular biology, and communication systems, along with bioinformatics, multi-omics, and molecular systems biology. This phase includes opportunities for specialization and independent research projects.
The final Master's year focuses on refining research capabilities and professional skills for students pursuing advanced research careers (such as PhD studies or industrial roles) or those aiming to strengthen their credentials. Participants will collaborate with a research group on a substantial project. Additionally, students may pursue a six-week summer research placement domestically or abroad, or opt for industry experience during their final year.
