The MA in Classics and Ancient History delves into the literary works, cultures, historical narratives, and social structures of ancient Greece and Rome, along with their enduring influence, while equipping students with valuable transferable skills. The curriculum's modules foster thematic insights into antiquity and engage with current scholarly debates. They enhance your research and communication abilities, teaching you to collect and structure information, interpret intricate evidence, assess arguments, and present ideas effectively to diverse audiences. Alongside conducting independent research, you'll collaborate with peers to organize and contribute to academic discussions.
You can select from elective modules centered on the literary, documentary, artistic, and material heritage of ancient Greece and Rome, offering glimpses into daily life during Classical times.
Further opportunities in Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology enable you to broaden your focus beyond Greece and Rome to encompass the wider Mediterranean and Near Eastern regions, with hands-on work involving artifacts from our Garstang Museum. Language studies in ancient Greek or Latin are also available. Additionally, you may qualify for accredited study abroad programs at the British School of Athens or the British School of Rome.
This flexibility lets you customize the MA to align with your academic passions and equips you to undertake a dissertation on a topic of your choosing.
