Microbiology plays a vital role in many areas of daily life, from safeguarding food safety to combating diseases, advancing sustainable technologies, and studying microbial influences on climate. This academic program prepares students to tackle pressing worldwide issues like antimicrobial resistance, water purification, and sustainable food production through specialized research in medical, industrial, and environmental microbiology, along with molecular biology, genetic engineering, protein studies, structural biology, fermentation processes, and bioengineering. Monthly supervisory meetings ensure regular progress reviews. Within three months, students must submit a draft research proposal for assessment. Typically starting with an MPhil registration, students may upgrade to a PhD after one year by submitting a written report and passing an oral defense. Both degrees require a high-quality thesis and successful viva voce examination, where candidates must show original contributions to their field or advancements in theoretical knowledge.
