Our PhD/MPhil Medical Virology program offers you the opportunity to conduct a research project that advances knowledge in Medical Virology.
Medical Virology is a crucial and fast-growing discipline, with advanced molecular methods uncovering numerous novel viruses. Significant outbreaks of zoonotic viruses (such as Ebola, MERS, SARS, Nipah, etc.) frequently occur, while shifts in climate, social behaviors, and healthcare practices have facilitated the spread of both emerging and re-emerging viral illnesses.

Managing viral diseases remains difficult, as no truly broad-spectrum antiviral treatments currently exist, making prevention and containment essential. Cutting-edge diagnostic techniques enhance our comprehension of viral infection mechanisms, while an increasing number of vaccines and antiviral therapies are being created and implemented.

Ongoing research focuses on congenital infections, especially human cytomegalovirus, as well as blood-borne viruses like hepatitis C, HIV, and human polyomaviruses—though these topics are not exhaustive, as a broad spectrum of viral infections are under investigation.
