Human Geography examines the connections between individuals and their societies, analyzing elements like language, belief systems, economic models, political frameworks, and various cultural dimensions. This doctoral program facilitates intensive investigation through self-directed study, advisor consultations, and academic symposiums, equipping participants with essential competencies for careers in research, urban/rural planning, and developmental advisory roles. The School of Geography enables candidates to pursue advanced studies under globally renowned scholars, including Professor Mark Macklin, a specialist in fluvial systems, planetary environmental shifts, and watershed risks, alongside Professor Edward Hanna, an authority in climatology and atmospheric sciences. The program fosters a collaborative intellectual environment where scholars exchange concepts and insights to push disciplinary boundaries. Lincoln's geography researchers are engaged in initiatives studying transnational population movements, countryside advancement, the geographical aspects of societal and technological progress, historical ecology and archaeological geology, ecosystem stewardship, policy systems and human actions, plus the evaluation and visualization of socioeconomic disparities across global and local contexts.
