Research students benefit from comprehensive training programs and dedicated faculty support. We offer diverse research opportunities spanning various social and political science disciplines. Current student investigations explore topics such as youth political engagement, European Union nuclear energy strategies, food politics, historical analysis of the 1984/85 miners' strikes, security of fossil fuel operations in Nigeria's Niger Delta, and Labour Party leadership dynamics. Candidates may pursue either MPhil or PhD qualifications, typically completed through thesis work with flexible full-time or part-time options. Our School is committed to fostering independent research capabilities through extensive support systems. A structured framework ensures regular progress monitoring and encouragement. Each student receives guidance from two primary supervisors, with additional specialists assigned when beneficial. Participation in departmental research seminars is expected, along with opportunities for conference attendance funding and academic publication. Qualified students may gain teaching experience after completing required pedagogical training.
