The School of Fine and Performing Arts offers deep research capabilities across drama, theatre, and performance studies, with dedicated faculty providing ongoing guidance. Specialized areas encompass playwriting, dramaturgy, stage design, musical theater, Asian performance traditions, intermedial studies, historical research methods, and practice-led investigation. Graduate researchers can join vibrant academic collectives like Contemporary Theatre-Making, (Re)Constructing Musics, or Intercultural Performance, while engaging in the Critical Encounters seminar series alongside faculty and peers. Candidates receive active encouragement to showcase their work at conferences worldwide and pursue academic publications. Our doctoral programs foster specialized independent research, complemented by regular advisory sessions to maintain progress and quality standards. Full-time scholars meet supervisors monthly, while part-time researchers convene bi-monthly. Structured milestones (including Study Confirmation, Annual Review, and Transfer assessments) provide opportunities to present work to the academic community.
