Our General Engineering programs are designed to cultivate well-rounded graduates equipped with diverse expertise across multiple engineering disciplines, capable of tackling emerging challenges and creating sustainable solutions for contemporary society. The curriculum features tailored modules specifically for General Engineering, alongside specialized courses that complement the School's broader engineering offerings.
The General Engineering program suite includes CertHE, DipHE, and BEng (Hons) qualifications. Students can opt to enroll for one year to pursue a CertHE or progress through three years to earn a BEng (Hons). Flexible program transfers are permitted during studies, and a foundation year option exists for applicants who don't meet standard entry criteria.
Program assessments evaluate both technical engineering competencies and professional skills such as verbal/written communication, collaboration, continuous learning, analytical thinking, project coordination, and organizational abilities.
Many modules incorporate individual or group coursework assignments, allowing students to demonstrate their grasp of subject matter. Presentations are frequently integrated into coursework to enhance communication capabilities. The program also features timed online assessments (TCAs).
Final-year students undertake a comprehensive individual project, synthesizing all aspects of their academic growth throughout the program.
Two placement options are available based on student interests: either an industrial year or a research year through the sandwich program.
While students are encouraged to secure their own placements, tutors offer guidance when needed. Placement participants are responsible for covering their own travel, living expenses, and accommodation costs.
