The Arts Foundation Year at Lincoln serves as the first year of a comprehensive four-year degree program, offering an alternative pathway into various arts-related degrees at the College of Arts. These include Animation and Visual Effects, Architecture, Graphic Design, Creative Advertising, Illustration, Interior Architecture and Design, Design for Event, Exhibition and Performance, Fashion, Fine Art, Photography, and Product Design. This interdisciplinary program, known as the Arts Foundation Year, brings students together under a shared curriculum, fostering collaboration across different specializations. It is ideal for those who may need extra preparation for university-level study, are undecided about their focus area, didn't achieve their expected grades, or are re-entering education. Through practical and theoretical coursework, students explore creative disciplines while building confidence via experimental projects, design methodologies, hands-on workshops, and critical analysis.
The BA (Hons) Architecture program encourages diverse design approaches, helping students develop their unique creative identity. Assessment primarily involves project-based work, blending theory, technical skills, and design practice. In studio settings, students refine written papers, technical studies, and design concepts, supported by research-driven teaching. The School emphasizes drawing as a vital tool for observation, analysis, and communication, spanning traditional sketching to advanced digital visualization. State-of-the-art CAD and workshop facilities enable students to experiment with cutting-edge design techniques, both physical and digital. Collaboration with the Design for Exhibition and Museums course helps cultivate professional presentation standards. Students' sketchbooks and portfolios serve as reflections of their growth throughout the program. This course is available at Lincoln's Brayford Pool Campus and SHAPE, VTC in Hong Kong.
