We are globally recognized for outstanding achievements in cardiovascular research, covering the entire range from laboratory studies to clinical applications. Our research has significantly influenced patient care both nationally and worldwide. We maintain robust collaborations with the NHS, evidenced by our National Institute for Health Research Biomedical Research Centre designation with a Cardiovascular Disease focus. Our commitment to student education is exemplary, as demonstrated by our Athena SWAN Silver Award recognition. PhD candidates conduct independent research projects with support from a supervisory team, typically finishing within 3.0-3.5 years (full-time) or 6.0-6.5 years (part-time). An additional year (full-time) or seventh year (part-time) can be used for thesis preparation. The dissertation should generally not surpass 50,000 words, must present original findings, and include publishable-quality work. Final degree conferral requires successful defense of the thesis in an oral examination.
