The University of Leicester School of Business serves as an international hub for developing future leaders, innovators, and agents of change. With more than nine decades of excellence in business education, we're globally recognized for our programs in accounting, finance, management, marketing, and economics. Ranked 14th in the UK for research impact, we collaborate with industry leaders to advance ethical business practices. Our PhD candidates undertake self-directed research projects with faculty supervision. The maximum enrollment duration is 4 years full-time or 7 years for part-time/distance learners. Typically, hands-on research (including experiments, lab work, fieldwork, and data gathering) spans 3-3.5 years full-time or 6-6.5 years part-time. Following active research, students may apply for a 12-month writing period. The combined research and writing phases must not surpass the total registration limit. Doctoral dissertations, capped at 80,000 words, must demonstrate original scholarly contributions and publishable-quality work. Final degree conferral requires successful defense during an oral examination.
