The University of Leicester School of Business serves as an international hub for developing future leaders, innovators, and agents of change. With more than nine decades of excellence in business education, we're globally recognized for our programs in accounting, finance, management, marketing, and economics. Our commitment to fostering responsible business practices through collaborations with industry leaders has earned us a 14th place ranking in the UK for research impact. Doctoral candidates undertake self-directed research projects with support from faculty supervisors. The maximum enrollment duration before thesis submission is 4 years for full-time students or 7 years for part-time/distance learners. Typically, active research (encompassing experiments, lab work, fieldwork, and data gathering) spans 3-3.5 years full-time or 6-6.5 years part-time. Following active research, students may apply for a 12-month writing-up extension. The combined research and writing phases cannot surpass the maximum registration timeframe. Theses should generally not exceed 80,000 words, must demonstrate original scholarly contributions, and include publishable-quality work. Final degree conferral requires successful defense of the thesis in an oral examination.
