The DBA Programme, also known as the Professional Doctorate, is one of several doctoral offerings at Northumbria University. This intensive two-year full-time course (or three years part-time) builds upon prior Master's-level education and/or extensive business management experience.
The curriculum strengthens managerial theoretical knowledge, analytical capabilities, and research expertise, empowering participants to conduct substantial practice-oriented research that delivers novel insights to their professional domain.

Throughout your doctoral journey, you will:

Gain sophisticated research competencies through comprehensive study and personal academic growth.
Enhance your ability to analyze, assess, and generate innovative professional knowledge.
Complete a 60,000-word thesis or portfolio featuring original, publication-worthy research that critically examines current literature and professional applications.
The structured program requires meeting annual milestones including Project Approval and Annual Progression assessments for both full-time and part-time students.

Instruction follows a block release format, complemented by continuous access to our digital learning platform.

[My DBA supervisor] maintained excellent availability through multiple communication channels - phone, email, Skype, and face-to-face meetings. Her unwavering support for my academic progress, personal growth, and overall well-being proved absolutely essential. Dr Helen Shiels
