The Department of Chemistry has gained worldwide recognition for its pioneering studies in biological chemistry, sustainable chemistry, atmospheric science, and laser spectroscopy. Our institution provides PhD and MPhil research opportunities aligned with faculty expertise, covering fields such as: Spectroscopy, Dynamics and Atmospheric Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Materials and Interfaces, as well as Sustainable Synthesis and Catalysis. Doctoral candidates undertake self-directed research projects with support from an advisory team, typically finishing within 3.0-3.5 years for full-time students or 6.0-6.5 years for part-time scholars. An additional year (or remaining portion) may be utilized for thesis preparation before submission. The dissertation, limited to 50,000 words, must present novel findings and research worthy of publication. Candidates must successfully defend their work in an oral examination (viva voce) to obtain their degree.
