Cinema plays a vital role in shaping national culture, and this Modern Languages with Film Studies BA offers an exceptional chance to develop advanced proficiency in your chosen language(s) while gaining a solid foundation in film theory, history, and analysis. Approximately one-third of the program focuses on film studies, with the remaining two-thirds devoted to learning one or two languages from French, Italian, and Spanish. Recognized among the UK's top ten institutions for Modern Languages (The Guardian University Guide 2021), Leicester consistently achieves high student satisfaction ratings in the National Student Survey. This degree allows you to specialize in either one or two languages, with the option to begin one language from scratch through an intensive first-year program that reaches post-GCSE proficiency. The film studies component will train you in visual analysis and critical thinking, exploring both filmmaking techniques and critical reception. No previous film studies experience is necessary. Mastering foreign languages provides significant professional advantages and diverse career opportunities. You'll benefit from a stimulating, personalized learning environment with dedicated academic support to maximize your potential throughout your studies.
