Pursuing a research degree in the Faculty of Biological Sciences allows you to cultivate expertise as an autonomous investigator in your selected discipline. Guided by your principal supervisor and additional co-supervisors, you'll conduct innovative research addressing specific biological challenges while joining a vibrant academic community employing cross-disciplinary methods to solve contemporary scientific problems. During your doctoral studies, you'll not only deepen your subject-specific expertise but also enhance professional capabilities through structured training initiatives, seminar participation, and conference engagements.
Our studies examine how various organ dysfunctions associated with heart failure collectively contribute to fatigue, reduced physical capacity, diminished life quality, and decreased survival rates. We investigate exercise's therapeutic mechanisms and identify optimal training protocols for maximum benefit. Our methodologies span from genetic analysis to whole-organ functional assessments, supported by computational modeling. Both animal subjects and human volunteers participate in these investigations. Using rodent heart failure models, we study cardiac tissue restructuring, electromechanical activity alterations, exercise-induced recovery processes, and potential improvements to skeletal muscle function.
