Studying human nutrition is crucial for enhancing societal health. Our work generates, progresses, and shares nutritional science to benefit public wellbeing. We investigate dietary patterns across all life stages, from pregnancy and childhood to adolescence and older adulthood. A key focus is examining how diet influences chronic illness progression. Our groundbreaking research on sugar's health effects earned Dr. Charlotte Evans the Nutrition Society's 2016 Public Health Nutrition Medal. We frequently utilize the UK Women's Cohort Study (http:/ukwcs.leeds.ac.uk/), among Britain's most extensive longitudinal studies. Our policy-oriented research has shaped government recommendations regarding pregnancy caffeine limits and national sugar guidelines. Globally, we're establishing the world's first WHO Collaborating Centre for Nutritional Epidemiology. Our international efforts include contributing to European dietary surveys and establishing standardized food portion sizes.
