Pursuing a research degree in the Faculty of Biological Sciences allows you to cultivate expertise as an autonomous investigator in your selected discipline. Guided by your principal supervisor and additional co-supervisors, you'll conduct pioneering research on specific biological challenges while joining a vibrant academic community employing cross-disciplinary methods to address contemporary scientific inquiries. During your doctoral studies, you'll not only deepen your subject-specific expertise but also enhance professional capabilities through structured training initiatives, seminar participation, and conference engagements.
Our investigations concentrate on both foundational biological principles and applied research in animal sciences. We examine diverse organisms to explore fundamental biological processes pertinent to animal and human health and disease. Key areas of inquiry encompass molecular pathways, genetic factors, and genomic aspects related to health conditions including nutritional disorders, parasitic diseases, inherited abnormalities, and malignancies. Our work utilizes various biological models, from insects to mammals, to decipher behavioral patterns and developmental biology. This includes research on agricultural pests and disease-carrying organisms. These studies yield practical benefits for animal and human wellbeing, ranging from enhanced livestock productivity and innovative pest management strategies to therapeutic developments for agricultural and medical applications.
