A PhD represents the highest globally acknowledged research credential and stands as the predominant research degree pursued at Leeds. This advanced program focuses on conducting original investigations that expand understanding within your selected academic discipline. Throughout your studies, you'll receive guidance from a principal supervisor along with one or more additional supervisors specializing in your field, potentially collaborating within a research team alongside fellow students and faculty members. Our flagship research qualification, the Doctor of Philosophy, requires submission of a substantial thesis (typically 300 pages or 100,000 words). Evaluation criteria demand that candidates demonstrate through their work the discovery, analysis, and dissemination of novel findings that meet publication standards in respected peer-reviewed journals - achievements expected from dedicated scholars following three to four years of full-time commitment (or five to seven years for part-time or split-site arrangements). Additionally, examiners assess candidates' comprehensive familiarity with their research domain.
