Leicester's Geography program stands out for its world-class research and education. Both faculty and students actively contribute to our vibrant research environment, with global field courses that bring research-driven learning to life. PhD candidates undertake an autonomous research project mentored by a dedicated supervision team. Typically, full-time students complete their research within 3.0-3.5 years, while part-time students have 6.0-6.5 years. An additional year (full-time) or up to a seventh year (part-time) can be allocated for thesis preparation. The dissertation, capped at 50,000 words, must offer novel insights and include publication-worthy material. Final degree conferral requires successful defense of the thesis in an oral examination.
