The Doctor of Philosophy serves as our primary research-focused degree. To earn a PhD, candidates must produce a substantial thesis (typically 300 pages or 100,000 words) that demonstrates original discoveries, interpretations, and communication of new knowledge. This work should meet publication standards in respected peer-reviewed journals and reflect what a dedicated student could achieve within three to four years of full-time study (or five to seven years for part-time or split-site programs). Examiners additionally assess candidates' broad understanding of their research field. Addressing climate variability demands immediate action to enhance adaptation and resilience. A crucial scientific challenge involves guiding comprehensive preparations to manage climate risks, prevent harm without worsening inequality, and capitalize on new possibilities. Our research team tackles these issues across diverse settings, from Arctic populations to European institutions to African meteorological prediction systems.
