Pursuing a research degree in the Faculty of Biological Sciences allows you to acquire and enhance your skills as an autonomous researcher in your selected discipline. Guided by your principal supervisor and additional co-supervisors, you'll conduct innovative research on specific biological challenges while joining a vibrant research community that employs interdisciplinary methods to address contemporary scientific inquiries. During your PhD journey, you'll not only deepen your expertise in your specialized area but also cultivate new abilities through structured training programs, seminar participation, and conference engagements.
Our focus encompasses the architecture, operations, and movements of eukaryotic cytoskeletal systems along with protein translocation across cellular and organelle membranes. The cell biology investigations in our department seek to elucidate the fundamental mechanisms governing both healthy cellular activities and their pathological alterations. Specifically, we explore the organization and roles of cellular structures like membranes, organelles, and the cytoskeleton, as well as processes including protein synthesis and breakdown, stress responses, genetic regulation, and protein trafficking in normal and diseased states. These investigations employ diverse model systems ranging from cultured mammalian cells to plants, nematodes, and Drosophila.
