Exploration Robotics focuses on deploying mobile robots into inaccessible or hazardous environments to collect sensory information and occasionally execute physical tasks. This technology has transformative potential across various sectors including: Defense and Security, Search and Rescue operations, Archaeological investigations, Environmental assessments, Nuclear deactivation, Space missions, and the Petroleum sector. In the wider sphere of Field Robotics, Exploration Robotics serves as an umbrella term encompassing most real-world mobile robot applications not classified as Service or Infrastructure Robotics. While some Infrastructure Robotics applications overlap with Exploration Robotics, the former often involves more repetitive tasks. Unlike Service Robots, Exploration Robots typically navigate less predictable terrains and face greater mobility challenges.
