Nonlinear systems exhibit a diverse range of behaviors and often seem unpredictable at first glance. These systems, whether random or deterministic, can produce surprising states that manifest as intricate spatiotemporal patterns. Research into nonlinear dynamics is fundamentally mathematical yet has significant real-world applications across scientific and engineering disciplines. At the University of Leeds, pioneering work in nonlinear dynamics has been a hallmark for decades. Established in 1984 within the School of Mathematics, the Centre for Nonlinear Studies (CNLS) was created to strengthen existing partnerships and cultivate new collaborations among researchers and engineers.
