This one-year program focuses exclusively on independent research, requiring you to complete a project and produce a thesis based on your findings. Like a doctoral program, you'll work with a supervisor specializing in your selected discipline. The MSc by Research enhances both theoretical and hands-on abilities, serving as an ideal pathway if you want to delve deeper into your subject without committing to a PhD immediately. Graduates frequently progress to doctoral programs or industry positions.
The central nervous system (CNS) possesses very limited natural capacity for repair and functional restoration following injury. At Leeds, our research aims to uncover the reasons behind this restricted regenerative potential. By investigating these fundamental processes, we can develop innovative approaches to boost recovery through rehabilitation (improving function via training with neuromodulation and robotic aids), increasing neural plasticity (facilitating new neural pathways and circuit reorganization), and controlling neurogenesis (generating new neurons along with their supporting cells like oligodendrocytes and astrocytes).
