As global needs for physical therapy grow, driven by aging demographics and higher survival rates from illnesses like stroke, technology's role in healthcare is gaining importance. Robotic solutions are emerging as a way to tackle unmet treatment demands, easing pressure on physiotherapy teams and budgets while enhancing patient recovery and wellbeing. This could involve robotic-assisted therapeutic exercises, smart prosthetics for better mobility and comfort, assistive devices to promote independence, or advanced diagnostic tools for assessing movement disorders and developmental issues. At Leeds, we lead in crafting these technologies, employing a user-focused design process that involves healthcare professionals, therapists, patients, and caregivers to develop impactful robotic systems. Our proven expertise in device development and clinical trials, supported by cutting-edge manufacturing capabilities, creates a collaborative research ecosystem with connections to Leeds NHS Primary Care Trust.
