Pursuing an MA or MSc by Research offers a valuable chance to enhance your analytical abilities and deepen your scholarly focus in a specific discipline. This research-based Master's program spans 12 months (or 24 months part-time), differing from traditional taught courses as it centers on designing, executing, and documenting an independent research endeavor. You'll receive guidance from two faculty supervisors and have the opportunity to publish your findings upon completion.
Our research addresses matters of social equity and civic participation across various scales, considering historical, contemporary, and future concerns. Facing growing societal diversity, urban inequalities, and climate change disparities, we pioneer creative studies, frequently partnering with community organizations and advocacy groups to combat prejudice, inequality, and marginalization while striving for greater global equity. We maintain collaborative relationships with diverse partners ranging from grassroots NGOs to governmental agencies, supported by consistent funding from prestigious national and international bodies including UK research councils, the European Union, the British Academy, and the Leverhulme Trust.
