This postgraduate research program can be completed in one year for full-time students or two years for part-time students. Under the supervision of an advisor, you'll focus entirely on research without any taught components, culminating in a thesis-based assessment. Your independent study will involve analyzing primary and secondary sources to develop original findings, resulting in a 30,000-word dissertation submitted upon program completion.
The Women, Gender and Sexuality specialization employs transnational and comparative approaches to examine historical gender formations through both female and male experiences. Our research explores family structures, kinship relations, and demographic trends through intersecting lenses of gender, sexuality, race, class, and culture. The program maintains strong research emphases on British and American contexts, the legal framing of gender identities, and the historical study of masculinities.
