A Master of Arts (MA) by Research enables you to pursue a one-year (full-time) or two-year (part-time) academic investigation with minimal structured teaching. This format provides an opportunity to examine a research subject more briefly than a comprehensive PhD program.
Our research programs offer flexible study options including full-time, part-time, and select distance learning pathways.
Unlike taught Master's programs, research Master's candidates focus on a defined project while enjoying greater autonomy in their academic work.
During your initial study months, you'll collaborate with your supervisor to establish an approved research plan. Throughout your investigation, you'll enhance your research capabilities through specialized training sessions and academic events.
You'll be assigned a principal supervisor, typically supported by a team of up to three advisors, to provide guidance throughout your research journey.
Upon completing your research, you'll document your discoveries in a concise thesis of approximately 25,000 words for evaluation. We welcome practice-based project proposals that may incorporate portfolio submissions, including practical work with accompanying written analysis. Your supervisory team will advise on the appropriate balance between practical and written components.
After successful completion, you'll earn your degree and may choose to continue your academic exploration by applying for a full doctoral (PhD) research program.
