In this program, you'll gain comprehensive knowledge about East Asia, which hosts the world's second and third largest economies (China and Japan). Covering both Northeast Asia (China, Japan, and Korea) and Southeast Asia (Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam), you'll examine the area through historical, economic, political, social, and cultural lenses. Our faculty possesses deep expertise across this vibrant and captivating region. Core modules will introduce you to the history, cultures, and societies, while elective options allow you to focus on your specific interests—whether that's introductory language study, East Asian religions, modern Thai history, Chinese society, Japanese film, or Korean society and culture.
Across all courses, you'll analyze pressing regional challenges like climate change, economic growth, and non-traditional security concerns, while also discovering the area's remarkable cultural, political, and social variety. You can start learning Chinese, Japanese, or other East Asian languages from scratch. The industrial track includes a third-year work placement option, while the international track provides study abroad opportunities during your third year.
