Building upon the internationally renowned research from the Centre for Criminal Justice Studies, this program provides an in-depth analysis of criminal behavior and its regulation. You'll investigate challenging issues surrounding criminal motivations, appropriate responses to offenders, and effective crime reduction strategies. The curriculum analyzes how personal, societal, legal, and political factors influence both criminal activity and justice system responses. You'll also examine the operations of key justice institutions including law enforcement, judicial systems, correctional facilities, and community supervision services, alongside the growing involvement of private firms and nonprofit organizations in managing offenders and preventing crime.
Foundational courses will establish comprehensive knowledge of criminology's key concepts, research methods, and theoretical frameworks, while integrating perspectives from law, sociology, and psychology. You'll develop both specialized expertise and analytical capabilities to advance understanding of crime and justice systems.
