This interdisciplinary joint honors program enables you to examine ancient philosophical thought through classical texts while engaging with fundamental concepts in both modern and historical philosophy.
Through Classical Literature, you'll investigate foundational works of Western civilization. By selecting from required and elective courses, you'll analyze writings by influential authors like Homer, Virgil, Aeschylus, Apuleius, Aristotle, and Ovid - all studied in English translation - gaining insights into Greco-Roman society and its legacy. You'll examine various literary forms including epic poetry, philosophical prose, comedic and tragic drama, while tracing how classical works have influenced writers across centuries.
The Philosophy component at Leeds introduces critical frameworks such as logical reasoning, ethics and political theory, modern philosophical traditions, epistemology and metaphysics, along with practical applications in areas like medical ethics, social justice, and conflict studies.
