In this program, you'll master Arabic, one of the globe's most significant languages, while deepening your knowledge of the cultural, historical, political, and religious influences that have shaped the Middle East, North Africa, and broader Muslim world. You'll establish a solid foundation in both spoken and written Arabic, which will be enhanced through a year abroad in an Arabic-speaking nation, where you'll refine your conversational skills. While overseas, you'll follow a customized curriculum created specifically for our students. Beyond Arabic, you can broaden your linguistic abilities by studying Persian.

Pursuing Arabic, Islamic, Middle Eastern, and North African Studies provides comprehensive insight into these regions' cultures, history, politics, and societies. You'll examine Islam, one of the world's most impactful and widespread religions, which holds strategic significance globally and within modern Britain. The program also covers pressing contemporary issues in the Middle East and North Africa, investigating topics like cultural identity, sexuality, gender, and race. Alongside core modules on essential subjects, you can select from various electives including Arab culture, politics, performance, Quranic Studies, and Islamic law.

Your second year will be spent in an Arabic-speaking country, immersing you in Arabic and Islamic traditions while advancing your language proficiency—both in formal literacy and everyday speech. This exceptional opportunity allows you to fully engage with another culture, with ample time for travel and exploration outside intensive language classes. For many participants, this experience becomes the most memorable part of their academic journey.
