Our research in Tourism, Hospitality, and Events focuses on two main domains. The Institute for Transport and Tourism (ITT) conducts practical studies on transportation and sustainability, examining how tourism interacts with sustainable growth across both developed and developing nations. Additionally, we investigate the social and cultural aspects of tourism, particularly through the globally renowned Institute for Dark Tourism Research (iDTR), which specializes in dark tourism studies. Our work aims to analyze and address key challenges within the tourism sector, with emphasis on dark tourism as well as transport-related tourism. Taking both applied and social-science approaches, we explore diverse topics including visitor experiences, rural tourism and business ventures, environmental sustainability, service operations, and sports tourism. Our collaborations extend to partners in France, Germany, The Netherlands, and the UK.
