The School of Sport and Exercise Sciences offers an outstanding setting for pursuing your doctoral studies. Our vibrant community includes both full-time and part-time postgraduate research students.
Program Highlights
With diverse faculty research expertise, we support doctoral projects across multiple sport and exercise science disciplines, including sports therapy. Research areas span: exercise physiology, nutrition, biomechanics, injury management, rehabilitation, and psychology. Specific research opportunities include: mental fatigue studies, perception of effort and endurance capacity, athletic training and performance enhancement, cycling biomechanics, impact analysis of major sporting events, rehabilitation techniques, physical activity across demographics, psychological stress responses in sports, sports nutrition science, immune system responses to exercise, prehabilitation and post-injury recovery protocols, and therapeutic interventions for sports injuries and back pain.
As a Kent research student, you'll receive comprehensive training in specialized research methods and transferable professional skills, encompassing academic writing, career development, and presentation techniques. PhD candidates can additionally pursue certification in advanced teaching practices (ATAP). Regular research group meetings occur weekly during term time to review progress, complemented by seminar series featuring guest experts. For those needing statistical analysis training, we offer enrollment in our MSc-level Research Methods course.
