About the Tizard Centre
As a division of the School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research (SSPSSR), the Tizard Centre maintains strong connections with healthcare providers, social care agencies, and related institutions.
The Centre leads in education and research concerning autism, intellectual disabilities, and community care, earning a Queen's Anniversary Prize in 2013 for its exceptional contributions in these fields.
With robust partnerships across health and social care sectors, the Centre focuses on three key objectives through research, education, and advisory services:
advancing understanding of effective support methods for individuals with IDD
equipping caregivers, administrators, and professionals with values, knowledge, and skills to improve services
assisting policymakers, planners, and practitioners in delivering superior service frameworks.
Renowned for pioneering work in deinstitutionalization, community integration, behavioral challenges, staff support quality, and autism-related studies, the Tizard Centre has substantially influenced national policy. We actively work to combat challenges stemming from social disparities.
