As part of the School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research (SSPSSR), The Tizard Centre maintains strong connections with health and social care organizations, along with other related institutions.

The Centre leads in education and research on autism, intellectual disability, and community care, earning a Queen's Anniversary Prize in 2013 for its exceptional contributions in these fields.

The Centre fosters valuable partnerships with health and social care providers and other relevant organizations. Through research, education, and consultancy, our core objectives include:

advancing understanding of effective support strategies for individuals with learning disabilities
equipping caregivers, managers, and professionals with the values, knowledge, and skills to improve services
supporting policymakers, planners, and practitioners in delivering better-organized and higher-quality services.
The Tizard Centre is renowned for pioneering work in deinstitutionalization, community living, challenging behavior, staff support quality, sexuality, and autism, significantly influencing national policies in these areas. We are dedicated to tackling challenges stemming from social inequality.

If applying for the PhD programme, a Master's degree in a relevant subject is preferable.
All applicants are considered on an individual basis and additional qualifications, professional qualifications and relevant experience may also be taken into account when considering applications.

IELTS - 7.0 overall (with a minimum of 6.5 in each component)
TOEFL iBT - 95 overall (with a minimum of 25 in reading, 24 in writing&speaking, 22 in listening).
