Our research focuses on community-based approaches to deforestation, climate adaptation, sustainable resource use, medicinal plant studies, migration effects, and conservation-development intersections. The Centre houses specialized facilities including an Ethnobiology Laboratory and Ethnobotanical Garden, while maintaining strong partnerships with institutions like Kew Gardens and the Eden Project. This program offers flexible study options with one-year full-time or two-year part-time formats, featuring personalized thesis guidance from our faculty. As an ESRC-recognized institution through the South East Doctoral Training Centre partnership, we provide robust research training that prepares graduates for advanced studies in social anthropology. Numerous alumni pursue doctoral research following completion of our program.
