The Centre provides outstanding opportunities for both full-time and part-time research in intellectual disability and community care, leading to advanced degrees. With a proven history of securing University and ESRC research studentships, the Tizard Centre operates within the School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research (SSPSSR). It maintains strong connections with health and social care providers and related institutions. Recognized as a leader in autism, intellectual disability, and community care research, the Centre was honored with a Queen's Anniversary Prize in 2013 for its exceptional contributions in these fields.
Our postgraduate programs enhance career opportunities for experienced professionals and newcomers alike. Many enrolled students already hold positions supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, whether in professional, managerial, or support roles. These programs aid their ongoing professional growth and open doors for career progression. Meanwhile, students launching their careers often transition into various health and social care positions, such as learning disability psychologists, behavioral specialists in community teams, service management roles, or pursue clinical psychology training.
