Hull's music department boasts a distinguished tradition of exceptional research. Our globally recognized studies in popular music, jazz, sonic arts, and music psychology earned international acclaim in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework. Each year, we present nearly 45 public performances and actively participate in regional musical events, from Early Music and jazz festivals to community initiatives, alongside hosting the esteemed Newland Lectures featuring leading global scholars, composers, and music professionals.
As a student here, you'll enjoy round-the-clock access to state-of-the-art music facilities following Middleton Hall's extensive renovation, including dedicated rehearsal rooms and studios.
The hall's transformation has established some of the UK's most advanced music spaces at the University of Hull. These feature a professional concert venue, immersive cinema, cutting-edge ambisonic recording studio, and top-tier rehearsal areas. The renovation introduces a modern entrance and café, with the 400+ capacity concert hall serving as the development's crowning achievement.
