Chemical engineering utilizes scientific principles to develop, build, and manage systems that transform raw materials into essential consumer goods. These include food and beverages, medications, agricultural nutrients, power sources, and combustible materials.
During your initial year, you'll participate in process safety instruction, featuring trips to CATCH, one of Britain's premier training centers. There, you'll gain hands-on experience with industrial equipment and protocols, learning to recognize potential workplace hazards. On campus, our virtual control room lets you monitor a lifelike 3D simulation of a chemical processing facility.
Major industry leaders like Croda, Cristal, INEOS, Vivergo, and BP Acetyls sponsor our third-year design initiative, presenting awards for outstanding projects.
Beyond our standard three-year program, we provide extended four- and five-year alternatives. Options include an integrated work placement, a combined Master's degree (MEng), or both. Similar to all our engineering programs, Chemical Engineering shares foundational coursework in the first year, allowing you to transfer to another specialization in your second year if desired.
