Our mechanical engineering research focuses on key disciplines such as structural integrity mechanics, surface treatment technologies, polymer nanocomposites, fracture analysis techniques, equipment condition assessment, vibration and acoustic management, fuel cell testing methodologies, next-generation powertrain systems, material property evaluation, biomedical materials, computational fluid dynamics, multiphase flow systems, thermal transfer and exchanger technologies, and microscale fluid dynamics. The University of Hertfordshire's mechanical engineering research initiatives have received funding from EPSRC, InnovateUK, and various industrial partners.

First class Honours BEng degree in a relevant Engineering discipline including Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science. Strong applicants with a 2.1 qualification may also be considered. Personal attributes including a drive to conduct research, self-motivation and the ability to work independently and within a team are essential.
