Located at our urban campus in Greater Manchester, the University of Bolton's BA (Hons) Community Development and Youth Work program provides dual certification from two nationally-accredited professional organizations. Accredited by the Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC) and validated by the Endorsement Standards Board for Community Development (ESB) and National Youth Agency (NYA), the course includes 800 hours of practical fieldwork. Practical learning through placement opportunities, combined with academic coursework that enhances professional knowledge and abilities, forms the foundation of this program.
This degree program emphasizes the fundamental principles of community development and youth work. Our dedicated and experienced faculty will help you examine topics including social education, public policy, community involvement, political systems, globalization, equity and inclusion, historical contexts, housing issues, and homelessness. You'll also cultivate essential workplace skills like effective communication, personal reflection, and organizational abilities.
Fieldwork placements or practical learning experiences occur in various settings focused on enhancing community wellbeing and youth development, equipping you to navigate evolving professional landscapes. While most placements are within Greater Manchester, opportunities may extend to other UK locations.
