The PGCE program equips you with thorough knowledge of secondary education levels while training you in various assessment and classroom management techniques to enhance student achievement. Specialized subject workshops will broaden your historical expertise while building practical teaching strategies. You'll gain proficiency in instructing fundamental historical frameworks including: patterns of change; causal relationships; evidence interpretation. Additionally, you'll examine modern educational challenges like curriculum diversification. We foster engagement with cutting-edge pedagogical research, encouraging thoughtful analysis of how emerging practices can shape your teaching development. You'll receive guidance from seasoned educators during school placements and university instruction. Our mission is to cultivate inspiring, competent teachers for secondary education while providing foundations for advanced-level instruction. Established as a teacher training institution 175 years ago, our newly reaccredited Initial Teacher Training (ITT) programs meet the Department of Education's updated standards (2022). Ofsted recently rated our ITT courses as 'Good', particularly noting their distinctive focus on sustainable education and our robust collaboration with partner schools.
