The discipline of Medical Education focuses on training healthcare professionals throughout their academic journey, from undergraduate studies to postgraduate specialization.
This field covers diverse subjects including: medical school admissions and increasing accessibility, effective methods for teaching and evaluating essential knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors among students and graduates, curriculum development, socio-cultural impacts on medical training, and professional identity development in clinicians. PhD candidates typically possess a medical degree, though applicants from other healthcare fields, biomedical sciences, psychology, linguistics, or education are also welcome. Preference is given to those who have completed a master's in medical or health professions education, as this provides foundational research skills. The PhD program is administered by the School of Medicine, Dentistry & Nursing, where most faculty supervisors are based.
