Pursuing a PhD or MPhil in Education allows you to conduct an extensive research initiative driven by your personal academic interests. The PhD program spans three years for full-time students or six years part-time, while the MPhil requires two years full-time or four years part-time. For the PhD, you'll submit a thesis of up to 100,000 words, and for the MPhil, 60,000 words, both showcasing original research that makes a meaningful contribution to educational scholarship. This culminates in an oral defense of your work (known as a viva voce examination). All academic staff at SUSE hold doctoral degrees and maintain active research profiles. The department's research expertise covers diverse educational topics, with senior faculty members recognized internationally for their research achievements and funding success. Many staff members have guided postgraduate students to completion and possess broad disciplinary knowledge. As a PhD/MPhil candidate, you'll hone advanced research capabilities essential for educational scholarship, supplemented by campus-based skills development programs. You'll also have chances to present your work at departmental seminars and the College of Arts and Humanities Postgraduate conference.
