Our Infrastructure and Environment research division addresses modern societal challenges by harnessing innovative engineering solutions.
The University pioneered the UK's first Civil Engineering Chair in 1840, with early pioneers like William J. M. Rankine establishing a lasting research legacy. Rankine operated at engineering's frontiers, adapting novel concepts for practical design applications. Multiple research groups within our division explore diverse topics in Civil and Environmental Engineering, pushing boundaries in understanding and shaping both constructed and natural environments. Our Graduate School strives to create an exceptional learning atmosphere that stimulates intellect, fosters cultural and economic contributions, and cultivates future global leaders. With over 750 students representing more than 50 nations, we foster groundbreaking work across traditional and interdisciplinary domains. A key focus involves uniting our student body and integrating them as vital members of the University's academic community.
