This program prepares graduates to lead mental health services worldwide, equipping them with the expertise to incorporate mental health strategies into broader international development goals and tackle global disparities. You'll cultivate critical thinking skills to assess the challenges of applying Western mental health concepts globally while acquiring the tools to create and execute policies that alleviate mental health burdens internationally. Two clinical placements at the Glasgow Psychological Trauma Service are offered (pending NHSGGC approval). The curriculum aligns with the Grand Challenges in Global Mental Health outlined in Nature (2011), with particular focus on how social and cultural contexts influence the interpretation and treatment of mental health conditions worldwide. Instruction draws from multiple fields including clinical psychology, social work, anthropology, sociology, law, and psychiatry, supplemented by perspectives from individuals with personal mental health experiences.
