This Master's program in Adult Education, Community Development & Youth Work enables students to explore both theoretical frameworks and practical applications in adult learning, community engagement, and youth empowerment. You'll gain essential competencies to collaborate with communities in driving meaningful, lasting social transformation.
The program teaches effective approaches for empowering individuals and fostering collective action toward creating more equitable, thriving communities. Graduates of the PgDip receive professional certification from Scotland's Community Learning and Development Standards Council, qualifying them for careers across various sectors including youth services, community organizing, public health, housing initiatives, and economic revitalization.
Participants engage with an active network of community initiatives, where project leaders both contribute to coursework and facilitate hands-on placement experiences. Our diverse student body represents varied professional, educational, and cultural perspectives, united by a shared interest in advancing social justice through collaborative action.
The curriculum covers three key areas of Community Learning and Development: Adult Education, Community Building, and Youth Services. Students take required courses alongside specialized electives. Those pursuing either the MEd or PgDip can obtain professional recognition through Scotland's CLD Standards Council, which requires completing 480 placement hours in community settings.
