This program prepares graduates to lead mental health services worldwide, equipping them with the expertise to incorporate mental health initiatives into broader international development goals and tackle global disparities. You'll learn to critically assess the challenges of applying Western mental health concepts globally while acquiring skills to create and enact policies that alleviate mental health burdens internationally. Two placements at the Glasgow Psychological Trauma Service are offered (pending NHSGGC approval). The curriculum aligns with the Grand Challenges in Global Mental Health outlined in Nature (2011), with particular focus on how social and cultural contexts influence the perception and treatment of mental health conditions worldwide. Instruction draws from multiple fields including clinical psychology, social work, anthropology, sociology, law, and psychiatry, with additional perspectives shared by individuals who have personally experienced mental health challenges.
